This piece is utter nonsense, at least if you know and like the opera.

Members' requests / Re: BBC Proms recordings

Hello Christopher,

I've put a copy in the Downloads folder. I've uploaded a single 75 minute file as there are so many 'snippets' of music I'd hate to chop it up in to tracks incorrectly. Hope that's ok. It's in the original 320kbps mp3 format so should so quite good.

Regards,

Kevin

My current musical crush is Grace Williams. I've uploaded a small selection of live performances captured from BBC Radio 3 during this year should anyone be interested. In addition, there is Donald MacLeod's wonderful Composer of the Week survey.

They are contained in the "British Composers V, W, X, Y, Z" folder.

Hello John,
I've just posted a performance of the same arrangement by Honeck in the Downloads folder from April this year with the BBC SSO conducted by Anja Bihlmaier if it's of interest.

General musical discussion / BBC RADIO 3

As a (possible) point of interest to newer members of the forum (and the old(er) ones too), I am a compulsive recorder of live performances on BBC Radio 3 so if anyone has a request for a performance in, say, the last 9 years on BBC Radio 3 I can have a rummage and see if I have a copy. Obviously, these will be non-commercial recordings and, should a commercial recording be released, please let me know and I will immediately delete the post. Should anyone have any knowledge of a source for older recordings from the radio I would be delighted to hear. I have a small selection of Proms performances from the 1980s which a gentleman recorded on to cassettes and, as I'm not sure if all of my old Mega links are still active, please feel free to ask me to check those too. General requests for individual composers or works will be welcomed as I genuinely enjoy sharing the joy of live music making. When I get to retirement in the New Year I'll be able to spare some time hopefully memorialising performances which would otherwise disappear along with all the rest of the glories contained in the BBC Archives  >:(

As a prelude to getting my hand back into uploading stuff that no-one will listen to (!!), I'll post a few things in the Downloads folder to listen to or ignore as you choose  ;D

First of all is a concert given by Ian Bostridge (Marmite, I know), Antonio Pappano and members of the LSO from the Edinburgh Festival this year featuring Britten, RVW and Elgar.

Thanks, Kevin. I was unaware of this service. Although I'm unlikely to take out a subscription myself, I warmly applaud Mr. Rose's initiative.

You'll have to forgive me but I'm catching up on the goings-on over recent months and noticed Lionel's mention of Margaret Bonds in another post. She featured on Donald MacLeod's Composer of the Week series last year and that may interest some of you. Nice way to learn of Bonds and get a nice selection of her work spread over 5 hours. I'll put it in Downloads if I can remember how to do it. Fingers crossed that it works!

Morning all,
Don't know if any of you are users of Pristine Classical (Andrew Rose's reissue site) but I've always found his transfers to be marvellous. I'm currently listening to the 'new' release of Tchaikovsky 5 performed by Artur Rodziński and the NBC Symphony from 1938 and it certainly doesn't sound almost a hundred years old. He charges €10 per month but that gives access to 760 orchestral remasterings, 230 operatic or vocal releases, 95 instrumental and 130 chamber discs. It's a nice mixture of transfers from disc and cleaned up live broadcast recordings. The Suite from Schreker's Der Geburtstag der Infantin in an earlier Rodziński broadcast may please our leader! Anyroad, hope you are all well and keeping safe out there. Hopefully 'speak' soon.
